My Journey Abroad
Hi, I am Martha.
More than twenty years ago I moved abroad with the dream of building a better life. I started my journey as an au pair and later became an international student studying finance and accounting. During my studies I worked to support myself and pay for my tuition, books, and living expenses.
After graduating it took several years before I was able to secure my first job in my field. Eventually I learned how the job market works and slowly built my career from internship to bookkeeping and later to working as an accountant in an international company.
During this journey I also became a mother and started my family.
Through these different stages of life abroad I realized that many immigrants struggle financially not because they lack ambition, but because no one teaches them how to navigate the financial systems of a new country.
That realization led me to create Smart Money Diaspora.
